Problem:
In Windows XP, svchost.exe uses very high percentage of CPU and makes the computer unresponsive.
There seems to be a bug that causes some sort of a memory leak.
Solution 1:
- Start Windows update: Start > All programs > Windows Update
- Click on “Change Settings” in the left grey column.
- Disable Microsoft Update option and ignore the warnings.
- Now you can visit the “Windows update” page instead of the “Microsoft Update”
Solution 2:
Visit the and follow the instructions. Download the two files in steps 1 and 2 and install.
Solution 3:
Visit and try the Reset. you can also do Repair or Remove and Reinstall.
