In the registry cleaner scam article, I said that I would cover P2P program scams. I thought it would be a good idea to be as specific as possible. So, I’ve decided to cover one program at a time, and also give you advise on how to set up the program correctly.
Well, the first P2P filesharing program to be covered is eMule. eMule has been around for a while now.It was started on May 13, 2002 by Hendrik Breitkreuz (also known as Merkur) who was dissatisfied with the original eDonkey2000 client. Over time more developers joined the effort. It is an opensource software meaning anyone can have the access to the source code. Here’s what it looks like:
You can search for anything from video/audio files to programs. Once you set it up properly, it’s a very good filesharing program.
These are examples of scam sites: www.emule.com, www.tntdownloads.com, www.emule–it.com, vvww-emule.com
Check out the newly compiled SCAM LIST for more.
So, don’t go to one of these sites to download eMule after reading this :).
Some ask for money trying to sell this free software, and that should tell you that it’s an obvious scam. However, some of them don’t ask for money, and they use other methods to scam you. One method is to ask for your personal information (ie. name, email etc). The other is to include a harmful software with the download.
The official website for eMule is . Make sure you get your copy form the official source or one of the trusted download sites (ex. ).
Now that we know how to avoid scams, let’s go through how to maximize eMule experience and also make it safer.
