µTorrent is the most popular Bit Torrent client at the moment. Consequently, there are those who use its name to exploit uninformed users.
Watch out for:
- www.utorrent.pro – malicious website as detected by Avast! anti-virus.

µTorrent is free, so don’t pay for it.

Few tips (step-by-step) on setting up and using utorrent:
- Download uTorrent and install.
- Open uTorrent, if not already open, and click on ‘Options’ -> ‘Preferences’
- Click on ‘Directories’, select ‘put new downloads in’, and select the folder to download files to.
- Click on ‘Connection’, and check ‘enable UPnP port mapping’. If your router does not support UPnP, then you need to choose a port and open in through your router setting. You can get help with that
- Here are screen-shots for the rest of the settings. I have a crappy 6mbit/800kbit internet speed, so I adjusted my numbers accordingly, especially for the ‘Bandwidth’. The rest are up to personal preferences and needs, but you can follow what I did below if you don’t want to bother with all the settings. You can ignore the other settings not in the screen-shots.
After that’s all done, you can visit your favorite Torrent sites, and click on a .torrent link. Your browser will ask you to either save or open the .torrent file. Select ‘OPEN’ and uTorrent should start downloading the file.

- – A very good search engine that crawls through all the major torrent sites, and gives you the results sorted by the seed number.
- – One of the sites listed on Speckly, and the cleaner than most interface is nice with a large user base.
