Donna Cassanite reported to police earlier in the month that she sold the ring on Craigslist and shipped it to an address in Texas, but had not received payment in her PayPal account.
Police determined that documents Cassanite received for the sale were counterfeit and generated in Nigeria.
The City of Lubbock Police Department in Texas located the person who received the ring and seized the ring from a jewelry shop that bought it, according to officials.
Warwick police received the ring and returned it to Cassanite on Tuesday.
First, why would you ship a $5,000 diamond ring before you receive the payment?
Which reminds me… Have you seen those “We’ll Buy Your Gold!” ads? “Ship you jewelry to us and we’ll give you money.” I wouldn’t trust them either — just my personal opinion.
It also seems that Nigerian scammers are building a bigger network stretching across continents. More and more you hear about scams involving multiple parties in multiple countries.
